In simple terms, a ‘Rainbow Baby’ is a newborn baby who is welcomed into a family after the loss of a previous baby, due to miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth. When a rainbow appears, it provides a family with joy, while honoring the past storm, and acknowledging that the family is still dealing with its aftermath.

A rainbow shows us beauty and light that has appeared in the midst of the darkness.

Some of my favorite and most treasured newborn portraits are those of my little rainbow baby clients. It is a privilege to photograph every newborn, but when parents share their painful journey with me, and we can honor their previous child(ren) through art, it truly warms my heart.
