Let’s focus on you!
Enjoy these moments, because in a few short months, this time will be a distant memory.
The maternity prep guide is full of information I’ve gathered over my 12+ years in business. It contains pretty much everything you’ll need to know to make the most of your time with me: from what happens before, during and after your session, to what to wear, to tips I’ve found to help create a successful session for everyone. I can’t wait to show you how beautiful you are!
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at any step along the way. My ultimate goal (besides creating gorgeous photos) is for you to enjoy this process. I pride myself in the awesome customer service I provide, and I hope you walk away from your session experience completely satisfied and in love with your portraits.
What you need to know
Before Session Day
Session Questionnaire
After booking, I will send a session questionnaire that will ask about your personal style, specifics you want for the session, ideas or concerns you might have, etc. It is important to take your time and fill out the questionnaire as completely as possible. The more you can tell me about what you’re hoping for, the more successful our session will be. I welcome you to send along photos of my past work that you love.
What to Bring
This list can vary depending on what you’re planning to wear, but these are items I have found can be helpful to have on hand.
- Nude strapless bra and thong (I have nipple covers available in the studio)
- Maternity spanx (if you’d prefer to wear them)
- Jewelry – typically I suggest keeping things simple, but a statement piece can be fun as well
- Shoes – I usually have mom barefoot, but you are welcome to bring shoes if you’d prefer to wear them. Heels are always fun!
- Clothes for partner/children: You are responsible for dressing anyone else that will be in the photos. I suggest keeping outfits simple (neutrals/pastels, no big prints/logos). The style depends on your vision. If you want a casual look, then jeans and a plain t-shirt is great. If you want a more glamorous look, then a shirt and tie/suit is a great choice. Most men tend to fall in the middle with a button up or golf shirt.
Hair & Makeup
Please arrive to my studio with hair and makeup done. I have a bathroom for last minute touchups. Also, please make sure your nails are looking good, as they can not be fixed after the fact. I am happy to send you a list of hair & makeup artists in the area if you’re in need, so just ask.
What to Wear
Some mamas choose to bring their own outfits to the session, which is totally fine. However, many find it hard to pass up my growing collection of gowns, bodysuits and silky toss fabrics. You are welcome to borrow from my Maternity Client Closet for any or all of your session! It is filled with beautiful pieces in many different styles and colors — and almost all of them can be worn in the studio or outdoors. Most items are made of stretchy, forgiving fabric, so they can fit anywhere from a size 2/4 to a size 14/16. You are welcome to schedule a time a few weeks before your session to try on some gowns if you’d like.
Weather
The forecast changes often in Northeast Ohio. I’ve learned that we shouldn’t even worry about weather until 1-2 days before your outdoor session. If I think there will be an issue, I will reach out to discuss our options. Usually, I wait until the day of the session to make a final call (just let me know when that needs to be if you have a hair appt scheduled). I cannot shoot in the rain or falling snow.
I can’t wait to see you!
session day is here
During your session
We will work through a variety of poses during your session (I am happy to direct you). If you get tired or need to take a break, just ask — I have drinks and snacks on hand in the studio, as well as free WIFI. Make sure you eat well and hydrate before your session because you’ll be moving around quite a bit. And feel free to bring a snack/water to your on-location session.
rescheduling
Life happens! If there is a family emergency or anyone isn’t feeling well, just reach out and we can discuss a change of plans. Please know that I am happy to work with any issues that arise, and that I leave time in my schedule to accommodate them. I’d love to hear from you 24+ hours before the session if at all possible.
what to expect
After Your Session
Choosing your portraits
Seven to ten days after your session, I will send along your proof gallery via email. You’ll be able to view each watermarked image individually and also in a beautiful slideshow set to music. You will have 3 days to choose your final portraits, so feel free to browse your images and watch your slideshow as much as you’d like.
time to shop
I pride myself in the beautiful, unique art products I offer. There is truly something for everyone, from wall art to albums to desktop art. Once you receive your final gallery, you will also have access to the variety of prints and art products offered. You will have a full month to download your final images and shop in the store.
