A Little Magic: Personalizing William’s Newborn Session
Some of my favorite newborn sessions are the ones where we get to sneak a little of the parents’ personality into the photos. William’s session had some Christmas magic, a little wizardly magic, and a whole lot of sweetness.
Born just before Christmas, William was already giving us plenty of reasons to make his newborn portraits extra special. We incorporated a few holiday-inspired images into his session, but his parents also had another idea in mind: a little wizardly magic.
Since Harry Potter is a favorite of William’s parents, we found a way to work a few of their mementos into his newborn portraits while still keeping the majority of his session classic and timeless.
One of my favorite images from William’s session was a composite inspired by the movie, with William peacefully sleeping on a stack of suitcases. Creating an image like this is such a fun part of newborn photography because, while the finished photograph looks like one scene, it is carefully created from multiple images to keep baby safe and comfortable throughout the process.
Of course, we couldn’t let a December baby leave without a few holiday portraits, too. There is something especially sweet about photographing a brand-new baby during the Christmas season, and those images will give William’s family a little snapshot of what life looked like during his very first Christmas.
What I love most about sessions like William’s is that they don’t have to be completely themed to be personal.
A newborn session can still include all of the beautiful, timeless portraits you’d expect—while also making room for the things that matter to your family. Maybe that’s a favorite book, a family heirloom, a beloved hobby, a special stuffed animal, or, in William’s case, a little HP magic.
Those personal touches are often what turn a beautiful newborn gallery into something that feels uniquely yours.
