Checklist: What to Bring to your Newborn Session
Life can be a bit overwhelming right after your new baby arrives. The checklist below will help get you ready for our session, along with walking you through my process so you can relax and enjoy this magical time in your life! My ultimate goal (besides creating gorgeous photos) is for you to enjoy this process. I pride myself in the awesome customer service I provide, and I hope you walk away from your session experience completely satisfied and in love with your portraits.
There truly isn’t much you need to bring with you besides your sweet baby. And many of these items I have available in the studio if needed. But if you prefer to use your own supplies, here are a few things I suggest bringing with you:
Essentials for the Baby:
- Diapers and Wipes: Pack extra in case of accidents during the session.
- Pacifier: Even if the baby doesn’t usually use one, it can be helpful for calming.
- Milk/Formula: Some babies eat more than normal while at the studio, since we move them around so much. Please be prepared to feed baby throughout the session or have some prepared bottles (I have a bottle warmer on site).
- Burp Cloths: For cleaning up any spit-ups.
- Extra Clothing: An extra outfit is always smart in case of accidents.
For the Parents:
- Comfortable Clothing: If you aren’t planning to have family photos taken, please feel free to dress comfortably. It can get warm in the studio. If you plan to be in family photos, make sure to check out my What To Wear blog post. I have a bathroom you can use to change.
- Snacks and Water: I happily provide snacks and drinks at the session, but if you want something particular, feel free to bring it.
- Backup Outfits: I typically keep baby diapered and swaddled for family photos, but if you had your heart set on a more skin-on-skin look, it’s wise to bring an extra change of clothing for yourselves.
- Makeup and Grooming Supplies: For touch-ups during the shoot. Nail polish can not be fixed in photos, so please make sure it is the color you want and not chipped (if applicable).
- Props: My studio has a wide variety of props and accessories, but you are welcome to bring an heirloom or meaningful keepsake if you would like. Please make sure to discuss it with me ahead of time so I can plan.
Preparation Tips:
- Dress baby in a loose-fitting outfit for easy changes. I’d prefer you avoid any clothing that has be taken off over baby’s head.
- Feed the baby before arriving to ensure they are sleepy and content.
Please feel free to discuss any specific needs or ideas with me beforehand to ensure I can accommodate your preferences. I can’t wait to work with you!
